Happy New Year!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

I probably won't end up like him tonight, but I hope some of you do. Happy New Year to the lot of you.

Here's a few pics I found while trawling the interweb.

James Bond's Rolex 5513: in case of emergencies

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

This is the Rolex watch used by 007 himself in Live and Let Die when he sawed himself out of a sticky situation using the buzz-saw on the crown. It also had a high-intensity magnetic bullet shield apparently, which would put any other sub in the shade as far as technical wizardry goes if it was actual life.

But it wasn't so these things won't work. But you do get a watch Bond, or Roger Moore had on his wrist before he traded it in for a Casio. And he signed the back, bless him.

Personally I preferred it on Sean Connery, with a Nato strap nonetheless, but I'm funny like that.

Expect to pay between $230,000 and $450,000 for the privilege of owning it.

Bearbrick x Stussy iPod speaker: teddy boom

Monday, September 12, 2011

I wouldn't get your hopes up about how good this will sound, seeing as his ears are the speakers, but that doesn't stop me wanting one of these Bearbrick x Stussy iPod speaker systems.

Available from Stussy outlets globally now.

Hovding: goodbye cycle helmets, hello airbag for your head

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Cycle helmets have to rank among the ugliest creations known to man. They do no discriminate in their universal ability to make anyone look as if they have a mushroom growing from the top of their head.

But they are also accepted as absolutely essential on roads where the odds of being unseated by a daydreaming driver are not in the cyclist's favour. So, begrudgingly, we all wear them.

But the days of the mushroom-headed cyclist could be limited after a couple of inventors came up with an airbag for your head.

The Hovding is worn as a collar and inflates to cover the bonce and neck at the moment of impact. And as an added bonus you can say goodbye to helmet hair.

Shrine sneaker rack: on the wall

Saturday, September 3, 2011

If you've ever had that dilemma over where to store your kicks after a hard day of pounding the streets, here is your answer.

The Shrine Sneaker Rack allows you to mount that footwear in a place that you won't trip over it, never lose it, and will save you money on unnecessary wall decorations such as artwork.

The fact that it will kick up like a sweaty locker room and display to the world anything nasty you might have trodden in surely won't make a difference. Will it?

Silly Thing ground leather luggage: just because

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I can't think of anything I want less right now than an overpriced iPhone case in ground leather by Japanese production house Silly Thing, but that doesn't stop me wanting one.

The Selby on Tom Sachs: the artist knolling at home

Monday, June 27, 2011

I had wondered if there was something wrong with the fact that I find a certain satisfaction in placing objects around my working area in neat little lines.

I now know that I am not alone - what's more there's a name for the practise, at least there is in Tom Sachs' studio. He calls it knolling. I'm with you Tom, I am a knoller too.

We also seem to share something in common in trying to quantify the cost of tasks. Take my cyclists - the amount of time I spend on them I should be selling them for £200 a piece.

More on Tom Sachs' studio below.

Miansai jewelery: suitably decorated

Sunday, June 12, 2011

Men's jewellery can be a minefield which is why as a rule I tend to leave it well alone. I haven't even worn a watch since Christmas thanks to the lead time of Rolex's highly efficient repair service.

Any thoughts of bracelets and the like are met either with a suspicion that they will look either too girly, hippy, twatty traveller or just plain crap.

But then the other day I was put on to Miansai thanks to a post about Chris Gibbs from Union LA discovering it, and I think I have at last found something I can wear with no self-doubt.

Bling me up.

Head Porter x Silly Thing camera bags: snap happy

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Your camera can cost you an arm and a leg, so it's only resonable to get something decent to carry it in. Whether that something is going to cost you five times the price of the camera itself is a decision only you can make.

But if it looks as good as this Silly Thing x Head Porter stuff, you might not have much of a job persuading yourself that you need it.

Mike Parker's office: A tick from me

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Sometimes I look around at my office at home and think that maybe I ought to dispense with the toys and make it a little more in tune with my age. And then I come across this, the office of Mike Parker, the CEO of Nike.

Which would explain the proliferation of ticks, although it's interesting to see some of the other items he's got in there, like the model cyclists.

It's the kind of office my dreams are made of - and my nightmares. It must take weeks to dust it.
